Speedy maintenance saves face

Offensive graffiti on a local politician’s prominent advertisement was removed just 29 minutes after being reported on Monday this week, thanks to yStop’s dedicated maintenance team.

The defaced bench, featuring Hillarys MP Caitlin Collins and located on busy Whitfords Ave in Craigie, sparked public outrage after being spray-painted with a nazi swastika.

Reliable maintenance

Responsible for council infrastructure assets in four council areas across Perth, including the City of Joondalup where Ms Collins’ advertisement is located, yStop regularly responds to maintenance reports related to graffiti, cleaning, safety and general maintenance.

Removing obscene graffiti is given top priority, reflected by the swift response from maintenance team in less than half an hour on Monday 16 January 2023.

Public response

Ms Collins shared a picture of the vandalism on social media on Tuesday, which prompted public outrage and subsequent media coverage, including by The West Australian (WA MP Caitlin Collins condemns use of nazi swastika after disgusting graffiti attack; behind paywall).

In the Facebook post, Ms Collins suggested the vandalism was a response to her recent comments about offensive messages in public places.
